TIRANA, Oct. 7 – British marines held military exercises at the southwestern Porto Palermo former submarine base and Sazan island fortress in Albania, authorities said.
Exercise Dragon Hammer saw Lima Company, of 42 Commando, UK’s on-call commando unit, ready to deploy anywhere in the world at short notice, practiced weaving through Porto Palermo’s underground tunnels using night-vision technology.
The exercise was following that of last month’s large-scale Albanian Lion exercise – the first set-piece for the UK’s Response Force Task Group on Cougar 13.
Other participants were also the Vikings of the Royal Marines’ Armored Support Group.
Cougar 13 is the routine annual deployment of the Royal Navy’s very high readiness Response Force Task Group, deployed to the Mediterranean and East of Suez, demonstrating the ability to project a highly effective UK maritime component anywhere in the world.
