TIRANA, Nov 19נThe Albania government has given the final word to give the seaport to the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. Both sides have been working to implement a plan that will give Kosovo full access to the sea via Port of Sh쯧jin very soon.
“Port of Shengjin will be a general port because it is related to the Durr쳭Kuk쳠highway then the intersection linking to the Milot and further with Kosovo. There is interest from the Kosovo government to have access to the Port of Sh쯧jin and there is a positive willingness from the Albanian counterpart to make this access possible “, said the Albania Minister of Transport Sokol Olldashi.
Sh쯧jin Port was an issue discussed for the first time in 2006 between Prime Minister Berisha and former Kosovo counterpart Agim Ceku. Since that time, Berisha assured Prime Minister Ceku that Sh쯧jin Port will be available to Kosovo.
The seaport has a piers and cargo processing capacity to 3000 tons, for now. Kosovo also plans to buil another highway via Gjakova, a town in southern Kosovo, which will shorten the road to Sh쯧jin. A railroad project has also been discussed.
