TIRANA, June 13 – The first kilometers of a new highway linking the northern city of Shkodra to the Hani i Hotit border checkpoint with Montenegro have been built. Speaking during an inspection visit last weekend, Public Works and Transport Minister Sokol Olldashi said a vital part of the segment is expected to be finished within the next three months, resulting in a considerable improvement of traffic. Olldashi said the most difficult part of the project including, underground works and expropriations had already been concluded.
The 39-km long highway is being co-financed by the Albanian and Italian governments under a 31.5 million Euro fund. The road is being built by Italy’s Claudio Salini & Salvatore Materrese.
