Opposition MP leaked an SMS in which the opposition says PM chides interior minister for incompetence.
TIRANA, April 14 – Former Interior Minister Flamur Noka has made public at a parliamentary commission meeting what he says is a leaked SMS message that Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri had received from Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The message warns the minister he would be fired unless crime numbers go down, claiming they had doubled compared to a year ago, when Noka’s Democrats were in power.
The minister said the message was real but it had been sent by him to two of his top officers – not by the prime minister to him.
Rama said in a social network site he had not sent such a message to the interior minister, who, Rama said, is doing a fine job.
But, the leak has been met with concern by governing Socialist parliamentarians, who said opposition Democrats were illegally spying on the premier and the minister and should be held accountable.
The governing Socialists say they have no cooperation at all with some institutions that are run by people affiliated with the opposition Democrats, including the country’s intelligence service.
Noka said he had received the SMS through a leak from an official and added the claims of spying were ridiculous.
