TIRANA, Oct. 18 – The main opposition Socialist Party insists that the recent decision of the government to allow the import of garbage into the country is against the interests and that they will overturn that decision when they come to power.
Last week it was learnt that the government had allowed the import of some garbage that could be used from the recycling industry in the country.
Environment groupings immediately opposed the decision saying that would endanger the country. They also said the country could also turn into a rubbish box for other dangerouns garbage, including the toxic ones.
Deputy environment minister opposed that saying the imported amount would only serve as kind of fuel for the recycling industry.
It was later learnt that verdict was also taken during the former Socialist governing under then-Prime Minister Fatos Nano.
Socialist leader Edi Rama considered the government decision as criminal while that of his party predecessor as coming form the lack of knowledge.
The Socialists say that the country has not the proper infrastructure and monitoring capacities to cope with such an industry.
