TIRANA, Aug. 20 – Prince Leka II, son of the self-declared Albania King Leka Zog, has been nominated as a close aide to Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha.
The ceremony of introducing the new member of his cabinet was held by the minister Monday and he also took the prince to a news conference afterward.
Prince Leka II has a consolidated academic base, according to a statement of the ministry. He has graduated from well-known colleges in different countries, including St. Peter College and then the “Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst,” one of the most prestigious institutions of military education in Great Britain.
Prince Leka II’s nomination was part of an ongoing program within the Albanian government to employ the country’s most capable persons with distinguished capacities.
Prince Leka II was pleased to be part of the diplomatic team and start his professional career in the foreign relations sphere.
Albania’s self-proclaimed King Leka Zog I has been a vocal backer of the demand from Kosova’s ethnic Albanian majority for independence from Serbia.
The disputed province has been administered by the United Nations since 1999, following a NATO war aimed at stopping Serb crackdown on separatist ethnic Albanians.
King Zog I is the son of King Ahmet Zog, a Muslim chieftain who declared himself king in 1928 and ruled until the Italian army invaded the country in 1939.
