TIRANA, May 26 – One of Albania’s best preserved natural treasures, the Lengarica Canyon, will be the host of an Albanian climbing festival this weekend bringing together professional and amateur climbers.

“Besides the great climbing, in Pà«rmet you can enjoy hot springs, the last free European river and great traditional slow food. The aim of the Albania Climbing Festival is to bring in focus all the best climbing that Albania can offer, mixed with a great friendly atmosphere, fun, music and many more outdoors activities,” organizers say about the 3-day festival scheduled for May 27 to 29.

Pà«rmet, nicknamed as a city of flowers, roses, irreplaceable songs, cleanness, and tranquility was known as an administrative center since the 15th century and its several rich bazaars were often visited by residents of the surrounding countries.

The village of Frasher in Permet is home to the Frashà«ri brothers and many other noted personalities that laid the foundations of the Albanian nation and independence in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.   The southern Albanian district also boasts the Hotova pine national park.

Another attraction in Pà«rmet is the thermal waters of Benja and the Valley of Lengarinca, just 3 km away from the city. There are six natural outdoor sources of warm curative water there, even in winter.
