Srebrenica commemoration

Berisha and Meta commemorated the 15th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre on Sunday.
“Today is the anniversary of the most brutal genocide and massacre in Europe since World War II. 8,000 men, women and children, under the protection of the UN, were exterminated by the hordes of Mladic and Milosevic just because of their ethnicity and faith,” said Berisha in a statement.
“The pain of the world today, 15 years after this massacre, is heavier because the main butcher of the genocide, Ratko Mladic, is still free,” the statement added.
Over 8,000 man and boys were executed in Srebrenica over the course of several days after Bosnian Serb forces overran the Bosniak enclave on July 11, 1995.
The massacre is the only episode in the Bosnian war to have been classified as genocide by the ICTY and the International Court of Justice, both based in The Hague.
Kosovo lobbying
During the conference Albanian top officials lobbied for Kosovo too.
On Serbia’s boycott Berisha said that was something “which should absolutely not happen. Because, once again I would like to stress that European ideal should be a leading ideal for our nations, and I do not agree with non-dialogue or excluding stances. In this respect, I wish these practice would end as soon as possible.”
Meta said that “As a founding member of the Adriatic Charter and as a NATO member state, Albania has insisted together with Croatia to include Kosovo at this very important Charter for the Euro – Atlantic integration of the whole of our region; therefore, we are very pleased for Kosovo’s dignified participation at this important meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Adriatic Charter. Certainly, we are very regretful for the non-participation by Serbia and we do not see any ground for that, since the Euro – Atlantic integration is the path that ensures not only long – term stability for Western Balkans, but for its prosperous future to the EU as well.”
Meta also added, “European integration for each country, including Serbia, is a process that conditions the cooperation with the neighbors of all other countries of the region and we hope that no one would be missing it in the future. If a few years ago, when this Charter was founded, only three countries were there, but there are 5 today and we hope that in a near future, all Western Balkan countries would be not only members of the Adriatic Charter but we hope, wish and we shall do the utmost so that all of them would also be NATO member states.”
