TIRANA, Nov. 25 – About 830,000 Albanians would vote for the ruling coalition today, down from 1 million in 2013. And 750,000 voters hold negative views of the government, with an equal number holding positive views. About 600,000 have neither positive nor negative views, according to a public poll released this week.

The ruling Socialists and opposition Democrats would get a similar amount of votes if elections were held today, 630,000 for SP and 610,000 for DP. The other governing coalition party, SMI would get 170,000 votes.

Asked on specific issues, those polled ranked the government worse for its management of the economy and the health system. The fight against informality was seen in an overwhelmingly positive light by voters.

The data comes from Barometer polls, led by Eduard Zaloshnja, a media analyst and statistician. He says 1,050 resident voters over 18 were interviewed over the phone in a balanced geographic and demographic manner.

Public opinion polls in Albania are rare in the period between elections, and experts warn they must be taken with a grain of salt because those interviewed don’t always tell the truth.

Political parties often conduct private polling of their own to measure the public mood, however.
