TIRANA, July 19 – The Agricultural Ministry has signed an agreement with the General Tax Directorate setting up a task force to collect around 4.7 million dollars from farmers who were given duty-free fuel five years ago.
“Under this deal we are joining forces to collect the accumulated debt in processing lines and green-houses which benefited duty free-oil,” said Gjoke Vuksani, the director of the Rural and Agricultural Development Agency.
Officials said that under the contracts the debts should have been returned until the end of June 2010.
The farmers were given the duty-free diesel in the 2004-2005 period, when the opposition Socialists were in power, under the 2KR “food production growth” project.
