Technical problems block the Albanian-Greek border, leaving citizens stranded

KAKAVIJA, Nov. 3 – The Greek border police’s computer system faced problems on Friday, making it impossible for Albanians crossing over to and from Greece to enter the country.

Greek authorities confirmed that technical problems of the software cause enough of a damage to completely block the border.

Albania authorities were told that the system damage has created problems from all of Greece’s neighboring borders, such as those with Macedonia, Turkey and Bulgaria. Hence, only citizens traveling with EU documentation could enter Greece, until the problem is fixed.

Nonetheless, this led to one of the most popular border points between Greece and Albania – that of Kakavija, to become overcrowded during the weekend, as rows of car waited to go out of Greece. While system experts worked on solving the problem, citizens were told to not flood the border points with Greece until further notice, in order for them to not become overcrowded.
