Demographic study shows that over 80% of women consult their husbands how their income will be spend.
TIRANA, March 18ؗorkplace competition between women and men, in respect to the earned income for each gender, has been the subject of a two years demographic study by the Ministry of Public Health and National Statistics Office (INSTAT). According to the study, some 30.9% of the women get paid the same as men in regards to the same job position. In addition the same percentage of women provide their families with the same income as their partners. Cases where women provide more financially are not that rare, the study says.
However, 83% of the women covered by the study declared that they always consult their husbands about how to spend their income. Hence, despite the financial empowerment of women in the last decade, the male remains the main financial decision maker in the house.
On disturbing fact found by the study was that 22 per cent of women between 15-49 years old justified receiving physical abuse from their husbands when the former where negligent to child care.
Eighty seven per cent of women and eighty per cent of men have access difficulty to health care. Only 50% of Albanian women have heard of the Pap test, while 77% of them have never heard of the mammography test.
Only 28% of women and 20% of men are fully informed regarding HIV/AIDS and its preventive measures.
