TIA records further growth in the first nine months of 2009

TIRANA, Oct 26؏fficial data released by Tirana International Airport (TIA) show that more than 1 million passengers had traveled through TIA in the first nine months of the year, a 9 per cent increase on the same period a year ago. TIA also recorded more than 15,000 air movements (ATM), an increase of 4.5%, and handled 1217 tons of cargo, a decrease of 16%.
“Tirana International Airport this year scored yet another success, reflected in the figures for the year so far, and we remain proud of our continued work in meeting customer satisfaction,” said Andrea Gebbeken, TIA’s CEO.
Despite the challenging climate for businesses around the world, TIA continues to release positive results, while completing and addition in its terminal in September 2009, an investment of 20 million euro aiming at accommodating a capacity of 1.8 million passengers per year.
During the first nine months of 2009, the airlines accounting for the highest passenger traffic were Belle Air with 42.1%, Alitalia with 13.5%, Austrian Airlines with 6%, and Turkish Airlines with 5.3%. Currently, twelve airlines use TIA for direct connections with 30 destinations.
