TIRANA, July 3 – A report of the Transparency International Albania showed that the tiny western Balkan country still has many problems with corruption and there is a huge gap between standards in law and their application in the judicial, executive and legislative powers.
It also recommended the implementation of judicial reforms.
It urged authorities to make appointments based on merit rather than political party preferences– urging adjustments to the status of civil servants.
Corruption remains one of the key shortcomings in the country’s efforts of integration into the European Union. One of the main EU concerns is also the persistent disputes surrounding Albania’s elections.
