Tirana Film Archives on Cinema Du Reel’s focus

The 38 edition of International documentary film festival Cinema Du Reel will focus on Albania and the Tirana Film Archives. The festival will take place at the Pompidou Centre in Paris from March 18-27, 2016.

“This year our guest of honor with be the Albanian Film Archive Tirana Arkivi Qendror Shteteror i Filmit, with a section dedicated to the Albanian documentary cinema focusing on the relationship between cinema, censorship and propaganda, with projections of the works by Dhimiter Anagnosti (Tale from the Past), Xhanfize Keko (Tomka and his friends), Fatmir Koci (Tirana, year zero), etc.,” according to a Cinema Du Reel press release.

Entitled A Story through images, the program focused on Albanian Cinematography,  has been curated by Clarence Tsui, one of Cinema Du Reel organizers. Among the films that will be screened are Komandanti viziton Shqipà«rinà« e mesme dhe tà« jugut (The Commandant Visits Central and Southern Albania), Kur vjen nà«ntori (When November Comes),  Kryeqyteti ynà« (Our Capital City), Shembja e idhujve (The Fall of Idols), Urime shokà« studentà«! (Congratulations Students!), Qeshim se nuk qajmà« dot – pse kà«shtu?, (We Laugh Because We Cannot Cry), Dhuruesit e jetà«s (Donors of Life), Pà«rjetà«si, (Eternity), Motive nga dita e diel, (Sunday Motifs), Kur po xhirohej njà« film, (While Shooting a Film), etc.

“It will be a special occasion to discover rare or censored film, some of which will be screened for the very first time. […] the festival continues to support the crucial role played by Cinematheques, those institutions whose aim is to defend the cinematographic heritage, sometimes struggling in extremely precarious conditions, by preserving, digitalising, restoring and diffusing national cinematography, with a focus on their documentary fund,” according to an official press release by Cinema Du Reel .

Organized by the BPI-Bibliothà¨que publique d’information (Public Information Library) in Paris Cinà©ma du Rà©el presents annually about 200 films at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, as well as in  various movie theaters. Founded in 1978, during the last couple of years the festival has been focused on Chili, Portugal, and Greece.
