TIRANA, May 29 – Tirana Mayor Lulzim Basha has been awarded the “Freedom of the City of London”, becoming the youngest politician and the first Albanian to be honored with this title. Basha was awarded the title for his achievements as Foreign Minister of Albania and Tirana Mayor.
“It is a great honor not only for me as Tirana mayor but the whole of the city and municipality of Tirana and I consider the award of this title a great responsibility because of the new level of recognition and appreciation for our capital city, Albania and Albanians,” said Basha during the award ceremony in Lord Mayor’s official residence, Mansion House, in London.
The freedom of the City of London is thought to have been established in 1237. It is awarded to those at the forefront of business, culture and science in the city.
