TIRANA, April 14 – Albanian Transport Minister Sokol Olldashi and Macedonian counterpart Mile Janakieski met in Ohrid last week pledging further bilateral cooperation in the field of infrastructure.
Both countries also pledged to build a highway to connect Skopje and Tirana.
They agreed to improve transport and communication links between the two countries. The two ministers said there are ongoing preparations to build an expressway between the two capitals.
Janakieski also said Macedonia was also planning to construct 56km of railway by 2010 to connect its network with Albania.
Meanwhile in the political arena, the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration party plans to strengthen its influence on Albania’s political arena with the establishment of a Regional Committee in the central city of Elbasan, according to a Macedonian television station. There is a Macedonian minority in Albania though many of its members have spread around the country and abroad. It has started to set up committees in Prespa, Bilisht, Korce, Tirana and other places in the preparations for its first congress.
