NAPLES, Aug 31 – President Bamir Topi made a visit to nearby Italy where he supported an initiative on holding a roundtable on the Balkan Peninsula and those in coastal waters of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas for the coordination of joint defense and security.
Topi also met with the President of the Italian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Sergio De Gregorio.
“It was a very important meeting which helped to lay the groundwork for a new and more effective collaboration between nations bordering the Mediterranean basin. The synergy and strategies shared management problems pertaining to security and defense must be the privileged way of multilateral cooperation. This is why the Italian and Albanian delegations at the forum of the Atlantic Alliance will be sponsoring a roundtable to invite Balkan countries and those bordering on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas to discuss those issues,” he said.
Albania is a new NATO member country since April this year.
