TIRANA, Aug. 7 – Foreigners arriving at the Tirana International Airport will now have it easier to find information on tourist destinations and services offered in Albania. The newly established tourist information office in the Albania’s only international airport will provide detailed information to tourists, and hand them promotional materials on tourism in Albania.
The office set up under the financial assistance of the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA). Speaking at the inauguration ceremony last week, Culture and Tourism Minister Aldo Bumci said another tourist would also open in Durres Port, as another important hub to Albania.
‘This is a modern office meeting all necessary needs for tourists. The Mother Teresa Airport, where the number of tourists has been increasing each year, is the main hub of Albania,” said Bumci.
Turkish ambassador to Albania Hasan S. Asan also described the new office as very important to the development of Albanian tourism. The Euro 60,000 project included the design, production, installation and publication of promotional materials. TIKA has been offering continuous support to Albania’s cultural heritage. Currently it is engaged in the rehabilitation of five mosques, monuments of culture with Euro 4 million.
The tourism information desk will be open seven days a week and will provide a wide range of information for passengers.
At the office, tourists can find information on different destinations in Albania’s 12 regions among which Berat, Durres, Elbasab, Gjirokastra, Tirana and Vlora. Those looking for more detailed or extensive information will be directed to the main office in Tirana. There they will also find assistance and information on the country’s most frequented sites and other attractions in Albania, including services offered in the different locations, the type and cost of accommodation available, how to get there etc.
“This is an important development for the promotion of the country. Tourism is a key factor for our company for this country’s development and its big achievements. TIA has always been a great supporter of progress here and tourism means cultural exchange, incentives for business and economic growth, which is why any initiative in this direction is always welcome,” said TIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Andrea Gebbeken.
TIA is constantly working to improve the environment of the Airport, trying to understand and anticipate the needs of its passengers and visitors. Testimony to this hard work is the growing number of passengers served each year.
Albania has a series of tourist information centres in the main tourist destinations.
