Turkish man arrested after trying to smuggle family through airport

TIRANA, Oct. 17 – Tirana International Airport border police arrested a Turkish citizen who tried to bribe a border officer in order to allow a family of foreign nationals to cross the border without proper documents.

The 40-year-old Turkish man, who lives in Kosovo and has a residence permit there, was accompanying a five-member family at the airport. He offered as a bribe several make-up bags to the female officer, police said. She in turn told her colleagues of the attempted corruption case.

Husamettin Yildiz was arrested on charges of trying to corrupt of public official.

Police said the family had allegedly paid a trafficker 5,000 euros to go to Germany via Kosovo.

The family was denied entry into Albania and returned back to Turkey, border police said.
