TIRANA, April 9 – Police report that some 22 undocumented migrants entering Albania from Greece were detained near the southernmost Kakavie border crossing point.
The illegal migrants, from Syria and Eritrea, were stopped at the Glina area, not far from the border with Greece, after they had crossed it overnight.
They are normally turned back to the country where they had come from — Greece in this case.
Albania is increasingly being used as a transit country for immigrants from Asia and Africa who are looking to go to Western Europe, first likely crossing into Montenegro, or even directly to Italy.
