TIRANA, Feb. 24 – Two professors and three students of the public Aleksander Moisiu University in the western port city of Durres have been put under arrest on corruption charges.
Police said they have proof they coordinated with each other finding students who paid money, up to 15,000 leks ($150) to pass an exam.
The five are accused of corruption and abuse of a public post, as the AMU is a state-run school.
Universities in Albania have turned into a big business for some as critics say students and their families are ready to pay money to get exams and buy better grades.
A recent ranking of the universities, made from an international organization, put the Albanian ones among those at the bottom of the list.
