TIRANA, June 31 – The ceremony of the United States 235th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence collected brought together Albanian personalities and politicians, with the exception of the country’s president, who was abroad on a trip.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha and main opposition Socialist party leader Edi Rama were at the same place in front of the National Gallery where the ceremony was held. They were also joined by Rama’s predecessor Fatos Nano and also Ilir Meta of the Socialist Movement for Integration.
But the ceremony did not serve to ‘mediate’ among them, as both sides maintained their distance. This was not a surprise considering the current tense political situation in the country.
