TIRANA, April 23 – Erkand Qerimaj won the weightlifting European gold medal last week and days later the country’s president, Bamir Topi awarded him with the Grand Master medal in evaluation of his will, passion, talent and love to the country.
That is one of the few and rare awards given to the country’s talents.
In the European championship another Albanian weightlifter, a woman also won gold but due to a decision of the jury could not get the gold medal for both sport formats.
Qerimaj was emotional at the ceremony and pledged he would fight hard to achieve other awards in the next Olympic Games in London.
