Work starts of Levan-Tepelene highway

TIRANA, May 14ؗork has finally started on the Levan-Tepelene highway, part of the North-South Corridor that connects the Albanian-Montenegrin border in the north with the Albanian-Greek border in the south.
Construction of the highway is partly financed by European Investment Banka and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and costs 70 million EUR. It is expected to greatly improve transportation between southern and northen regions of Albania and also boost trade among Montenegro, Albania, and Greece.
Levan-Tepelene highway will be 70 kilometers long, where 60% of the work will consists of a totally new construction and the other 40% will be an improvement of the existing road. It will conclude a 2 lanes for a total road width of 10.5 meters and according to MTT will respect all European standards for road construction. The road will include 50 new bridges and 48 small art works and its construction will last 30 months.
Two companies will be responsible for the implementation of the project, working on independent segments. “Todini Construzione Generale”, an Italian firm, will work on the first lot (Levan-Dames) and “Alpine Bau Gmbh”, an Austrian company, will finish the second lot (Dames-Tepelene).
