TIRANA, May 25 – The sixth edition of the Jorgjie Truja lyrical voices competition brought together young Albanian artists for four days at the “Tefta Tashko” hall of the Ministry of Culture and the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
This year’s competition held from May 22 to 25 included a considerable number of young artists from Kosovo and Macedonia divided in three age groups.
Prizes were awarded by an international jury composed of US soprano Barbara Pearson, Italy’s Paola Reali and renowned Albanian conductor Zhani Ciko.
The special thing about this edition of the festival was that it corresponded to the 100th birth anniversary of Albanian pianist Lola Gjoka. A special “Quinzo Petrochi” prize was awarded to the best performer of Italian lyric song.
The Lola Gjoka special prize was awarded to the best performer of folk song.
The competition’s winners will give next October a concert in Kosovo with the philharmonic orchestra of Prishtina.
A concert has also been scheduled for next November in Korca, the hometown of pianist Lola Gjoka.
