NEWARK, N.J., March 21- US authorities announced charges against 26 people, some of them Albanians, accused of running an international narcotics ring that also trafficked in steroids, untaxed cigarettes and counterfeit merchandise.
The group operated in several northern New Jersey cities as well as Brooklyn and Staten Island, N.Y., with links to criminal enterprises in Albania, Macedonia, Kosova, Serbia and Canada as well as other U.S. cities.
The investigation began in 2003 in the Balkans, Canada and the Netherlands and eventually tracked the suspects to New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Chicago, the FBI said.
