The 50th anniversary of Festivali i K쯧쳠will be celebrated with a huge live show, spanning four nights in late December 2011

TIRANA, Nov. 4 – Twenty-eight songs have been short-listed to participate in December’s Festivali i Kenges song contest, which will select the Albanian representative for 2012 Eurovision. Several big names such as Frederik Ndoci, Elton Deda, Mariza Ikonomi, and the Prifti brothers will compete along with other young successful artists in the festival which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.
“I am happy to see these great names are taking part in the 50th edition. It is a great mix of fresh singers, young singers and some classic veterans,” composer Shpetim Saraci, the new director of the Festivali I Kenges told the official Eurovision website.
The 50th anniversary of Festivali i K쯧쳠(Fik) will be celebrated with a huge 100% live show, spanning over four nights in late December 2011. For this special 50th edition, organizers have planned a special night only with the best of the Festival’s songs from the 49 past editions.
This year’s festival will be hosted by well-known journalist Adi Krasta and singer Eda Zari.
The 2011 Albanian representative Aurela Gace failed to make it to the final on Tuesday night despite a wonderful and passionate performance.
Aurela Gace competed with Feel the Passion, an up-tempo pop rock song.
Albania joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and achieved its only top ten placing in a final to date that year. The country was less successful since finishing 16th in 2005 and being eliminated in the 2006 and 2007 semi finals. Since then, Albania has always made it to the final finishing 16th twice and 17th once.
