TIRANA, May 2 – Albanian police arrested Saturday three Germans and two Albanians suspected of trying to smuggle 40 kilograms of heroin into neighboring Greece.
Police said that border guards detained two of the German suspects as they tried to cross the Kakavie border point in a car with the heroin, packed into half-kilogram packages.
A third German was detained later Saturday as he tried to leave the country through Tirana International Airport, and two Albanians, who served as couriers, were picked up in Fier.
The tiny Balkan country is thought to be a source of drug traffic coming from Southwest Asia.
