TIRANA, April 6 – President Bamir Topi pardoned or reduced the sentencing of 37 Albanians serving prison terms.
Among them the president pardoned 16 women and reduced the sentencing of two others.
Among the 37 is Feride Bako, the old woman, who drew a generous amount of public attention earlier this year when the opposition leader Edi Rama asked for her pardoning. Feride was sentenced for drug planting, a move that was likely done in order to save her children, who had fled abroad. Now she has to take care of some of her nieces that are living with her.
The president reduced the prison term to 15 prisoners and pardoned 22 others.
