4,600 Albanians deported from Greece

TIRANA, April 30 – Over four thousand Albanians who had entered Greece illegally have been deported during the last month, local media reported Monday.
Up to 4,600 people have been returned to Albania by Greek police. It is believed the Albanians had entered Greece on foot from the mountainous border area.
Officials noted that many Albanians try to enter Greece at this time of year in search of seasonal work in agriculture or construction.
It is estimated that up to 800,000 Albanians live in Greece though many others try to enter Greece in spring and summer.
Media reported that none of the returnees claimed of being physically maltreated.
