TIRANA, Aug. 30 – HOCHTIEF AirPort, Albanian-American Enterprise Fund and Trema Engineering 2 said they would rehabilitate with 45,000 euros the rehabilitation of dilapidated school buildings around the Mother Teresa airport over the next few years. They have launched a sponsoring program for schools in the vicinity of Tirana International Airport aiming to refurbish the dilapidated school buildings in order to provide adequate teaching conditions. Under this program, two of the airport’s shareholders and the construction company contracted to build the new passenger terminal seek to underline their sense of responsibility towards the people who live in the neighborhood of the airport.
The first school to benefit from this program is Rexhe Deliu school, which is situated directly next to the airport. Refurbishment work there has already commenced under the supervision of Trema Engineering 2. The most urgent tasks to be handled this year are the sealing and repair of the roof and the renovation of the school’s sanitary facilities. The construction measures, which have a value of 45,000 euros, are scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer vacation.
“Anyone who invests in children, invests in a country’s future”, says Dr. Reinhard Kalenda, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the airport company Tirana Airport Partners and CEO of HOCHTIEF AirPort, explaining the aim of the joint initiative. “So we are strongly committed to helping those Albanian schools which are most in need of our support.”
The sponsoring program will continue during the next few years and will be extended to other schools in the vicinity of the airport. Tirana International Airport has been operated since April 2005 by a private consortium comprising HOCHTIEF AirPort, DEG Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft and the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund (AAEF). HOCHTIEF AirPort, which bundles the airport activities of the HOCHTIEF Group, is one of the world’s largest private and independent airport managers. The Albanian-American Enterprise Fund was founded by the United States government with the aim of supporting the development of private enterprise in Albania. Trema Engineering 2 is one of the biggest construction companies in Albania. It is currently engaged on the country’s most important infrastructure project, the building of the new passenger terminal for Tirana International Airport
