TIRANA, Nov.15 – Bank of Albania declared that 86 percent of bank transfers into the country for the first half of 2006 have been a result of emigrants sending back remittances to Albania. The news is now familiar for an economy that finances more than half of its trade deficit through these incoming transfers. The total amount of remittances recorded by the bank is 432 million euro, a 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The other main factor that has influenced bank transfers for this six month period has been state transfers for technical assistance, a total of 31 million euro, and an increase of 41 percent from last year.
