TIRANA, Nov. 27 – The government decided on Monday to give six million leks to the Lopes commune, in the Gjirokastra district, to repair damage caused by the explosion of an army depot. Most of the money will be spent on repairing farmers’ houses; the rest will be used as compensation for the damage to their private property. Last May, explosions at army weapon depots in southern Albania killed an army officer and injured four other individuals. They also damaged a considerable number of houses in the area.
Another government decision allocated some 32 million leks to organize a meeting of the Krans Montana Forum on Albania, which is to be held in May next year both outside and in the country.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha said that his government would spend more, due to their better management of public funds, and stop the previous executives’ abuse of some 46 million euros. The added funding will be used for public investment and to repay public institutions’ debts to KESH, according to Berisha.
