SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina, March 1 – Bosnian police said Thursday they had detained 11 Albanians as they tried to illegally enter the country. The Albanians were detained near the town of Trebinje as they attempted to illegally enter Bosnia from neighboring Serbia-Montenegro in a passenger vehicle, a police statement said. Human trafficking and the sex trade boomed after the end of Bosnia’s 1992-95 war, in part because of a lack of border controls and a weak judicial system. In recent years, however, local authorities have worked to tighten borders and reform law enforcement and the judicial systems.
