TIRANA, March. 7 – The political decision to close down all operating customs warehouses has hurt business by prolonging the time needed to go through customs procedures and having no guaranteed place to store their good temporally. The government decided to close down warehouses at the beginning of its term because their operations were ridden with scandals of corruption ad fiscal evasion practices. A new legal framework is being prepared for a smaller number of licensed businesses that can reopen in this sector which will have stricter supervision requirements. In the meantime difficulties for businesses have mounted. Another aspect of the issue is the loss of the businesses that managed the warehouses whose activity has been almost suspended. Managers of these firms argue that a smaller number of license swill just result in higher prices.
