On 14 and 15 of March the second edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival, IHRFFA 2007 was launched in Tirana. This is an incentive of the Marubi School of Film directed by the well known Albanian film producer Kujtim Cashku. “In 1990, together with a group of intellectuals and Academicians, we created the first institution of Human Rights in Albania, while free speech was still a sacrilege and that for this right to speak freely, people were still languishing in prison, people who had scarified their entire lives for the freedom of speech. Sixteen years later, once again with Professor Ted Orlin and a group of local and foreign human rights institutions, on the initiative of the First School of the Film and Multimedia MARUBI, we held the first edition of the IHRFFA on 16-18 March 2006. It was no coincidence that this festival was created under the umbrella of a university, because its aim was to focus on human rights principles through a university world, where all visions of the future are shaped, of a modern and democratic society,” Cashku stated to local media prior to the opening of the festival.
The festival is expected to present a broad picture of the fates of people from all continents. There will be 16 films shown at the Marubi cinema. This year too, the jury will include well known names of the University of Utica such as Ted Orlin, John H. Jonsen, David M.Chanatry, Remzi Lani of the Albanian Media Institute, Vasilika Hysi of the Albanian Helsinki Committee.
