TIRANA, April 16 – Tirana police have had good results in the fight against organized crime during the first quarter this year, they said Monday at the analysis meeting. Holding of local elections under normal situations was another credit given to the law enforcement institution. Police claimed it was very professional and impartial during the electoral campaign and the voting day. During the first quarter there happened 960 penal crimes and up to 80 percent of them were discovered by police. They arrested 335 persons and 117 others are declared as wanted. There have also been extradited 18 persons. They had hit 19 criminal groups. Police had sequestered 40 kilograms of heroin, 372 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 9.8 grams of cocaine, and other drug materials, which are significantly higher figures compared to a year ago. There were noted only two murders during this period. Property damage or theft has been the main cause of concern for police, according to Muhamet Rrumbullaku, head of Tirana police. During this period Tirana has had 96 road accidents which resulted in 14 dead persons.
