Blast near U.S. embassy injures waitress

TIRANA, May 16 – While Albanian police and the intelligence service work closely with the U.S. on security issues ahead of President George W. Bush’s visit to the country June 10, on Wednesday a blast near the U.S. embassy in Tirana slightly injured a waitress.
The explosion at the Bar Deus coffee bar injured waitress Violeta Pano, 50, and also caused minor property damage, police report.
The explosion was caused by some 10 grams (0.35 ounces) of dynamite left at a table at 12.10 local time, according to a police statement.
Police and other experts surrounded the area, investigating suspects as well as the mechanism used for the explosion.
