TIRANA, May 29 – Spain is the 12th and final country to ratify the pre-membership Stabilization and Association Agreement Albania signed with the European Union last year.
“The Embassy of Spain has the pleasure to announce that the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the Republic of Albania and the European Union has been ratified by the Kingdom of Spain,” said a statement from the embassy.
“This ratification clearly shows the Spanish commitment vis-ஶis Albanian efforts towards full integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. It also shows the Spanish support to the consolidation of democratic institutions and economic growth in Albania.” it added.
The SAA is the agreement that will likely move Albania toward the next stage of EU candidacy. However, EU membership must be first ratified by the 25 EU member countries and Albania has to complete the other interim accord, a set of rules and laws, before becoming a candidate country.
