TIRANA, May 25 – Senior officials from the European Commission Delegation in Albania, the IOM Mission in Tirana, and the Albanian Government met Friday to kick-off the implementation of the project, “Fostering the Implementation of the Albanian National Strategy on Migration”, funded by the European Commission with a grant of EUR 800,000.
The main objective of this two year project is to support the Government of Albania in the process of implementing an effective migration, return and readmission system of citizens in compliance with EU and international standards.
The project will help to enhance the successful and timely implementation of the National Strategy for Migration and its Action Plan by strengthening institutional capabilities at the central and local level.
EC and IOM will provide technical assistance and expertise for implementing 16 measures of the Albanian National Action Plan on Migration related to addressing the root causes of migration, the successful return and reintegration of Albanian migrants, the promotion of the link in emigration-development, and creating an appropriate legal and institutional framework for emigration and immigration.
This project follows up on a previous project on the “Development of a Migration Management System in Albania” funded by the European Commission and implemented by IOM.
