TIRANA, June 6 – Albanian Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha said during his visit to neighboring Montenegro that “Ahtisaari’s plan is the best road to go forward, not only for Kosova but also for Serbia.”
After a visit to Macedonia, Basha went to Podgorica to meet with local officials and discuss Kosova’s future status.
Albania strongly supports Ahtisaari’s recommendation to the United Nations that Kosova be granted internationally supervised independence, a proposal welcomed by its ethnic Albanian majority who comprise 90 percent of the 2 million population, but vehemently rejected by its Serb minority and Belgrade.
Tirana has been involved in an intensive diplomatic campaign worldwide, trying to develop momentum to assure international support for Kosova’s independence.
Basha says Ahtisaari’s proposal is the best solution for Kosova
