TIRANA, June 20 – Two Albanians were killed Wednesday, and seven others injured, when the roof of a building they were working in collapsed, according to police.
Isuf Spahiu, 55, and Anton Marku, 18, were killed while remodeling the Hotel and Tourism High School in Tirana’s outskirts, according to police.
Tirana military doctors said the seven injured workers were in relatively stable conditions and none had life threatening injuries.
Army, firefighting service and other specialized units worked for four hours to reach Marku and ease him out from underneath the ruins of the building.
An investigation was launched to find the causes of the collapse. Some managers, engineers and other top officials of the Theos company in charge of the work were being questioned.
Many top officials, including interior and education ministers, and Tirana’s mayor visited the site of the collapse.
