TIRANA, June 20 – Albania hailed the unanimous approval on Wednesday by the European Union Council for the recommendation by the U.N. envoy for Kosova, Martti Ahtisaari, as a basis for the solution of the province’s status.
Further, the EU appealed for a quick resolution of the status process. The EU will play an important role of an independent Kosova, as it will take the UNMIK role there. But for that to occur, UN approval is required.
“Fast progress in this direction would not only be a direct investment for building a democratic and multiethnic Kosova, but also an irreplaceable contribution to preserve and strengthen regional stability,” said a statement from the Albanian Foreign Ministry.
In his meeting with the EU, foreign commissioner Solana Basha repeated that Albania would do all it could to also contribute to calm and stability in Kosova.
