TIRANA, July 11 – Smaller political parties of the opposition coalition blamed Prime Minister Berisha for the presidential crisis and for the threat that the country could be forced to hold early parliamentary elections.
They reacted harshly to Berisha’s offer to participate in the presidential vote in parliament, saying their boycott was the most effective way to protest what they call the premier’s corruption.
Skender Gjinushi of the Social Democrats said new elections were the best solution to the presidential deadlock.
The Socialist Movement for Integration also turned down any invitation from the rightist coalition saying they could not take part in such a ‘tender’.
Neritan Ceka of the Democratic Alliance also said that co-governance with Berisha could not resolve the crisis. The best way would be resuming the political round table, according to him.
Even governing coalition members expressed their concern, saying that early elections were not the best solution, though they also called for negotiations.
