Police cracks down on smuggling drugs and immigrants into Greece

TIRANA, July 23 – Police said they had cracked down on a drug ring also involved in human smuggling, in the southernmost port city of Saranda.

Police arrested Sunday 12 persons involved in the ring which smuggled illegal immigrants and drugs into neighboring Greece.

Among the arrested were six local policemen in Saranda who received money while assisting in the trafficking.

Police said that the internal observation department had investigated the case for months in the southern districts of Saranda, Vlora and Kurbin before making the arrests.

Police said their investigation was continuing as they search for additional suspects.
