Durres-Pogradec railway link reopens following 15 year closure

DURRES, July 20 – The railway link between the main port of Durres and the iron-nickel mine in Guri I Kuq, Pogradec resumed operations after a 15-year closing.

Iron-nickel ore is one of the main export goods in Albania.

The mine in Guri I Kuq is managed by the German company, K-Shipping Gmbh, and a deal with the railway department envisages the transport of 360,000 tons of iron-nickel per year.

To reopen the line, the railway link in Guri i Kuq installed a kilometer of rails for a station there.
