U.S. Embassy Congratulates New President and Urges Work on Reform

TIRANA, July 24 – “The U.S. Embassy congratulates the people and Parliament of Albania for successfully concluding the election of the next President of the Republic,” the embassy said in a written statement.

“We wish Bamir Topi every success in his new position. We urge the Parliament and Government of Albania to concentrate and work together now to implement needed reforms in the interest of the people and nation, including electoral and other reforms necessary for NATO and EU integration. We urge the new President to use his office to encourage cooperation and stability among Albania’s democratic institutions,” it said.

The embassy also thanked “President Alfred Moisiu for the warm cooperation we have enjoyed during the five years of his mandate.”
