TIRANA, Sep. 24 – Opposition Socialist Party leader Edi Rama said Monday that his predecessor in the post, former premier Fatos Nano, was closely collaborating with the governing coalition of Prime Minister Sali Berisha in order to hamper the opposition return to power.
Speaking at a talk show at the private TV station Top Channel, Rama said that Nano was out of the Socialists’ party.
“Berisha and Nano think the same of me, the Socialist Party and the opposition. They have a joint project,” he said.
At the same time Nano has started a campaign nationwide to meet with low ranking Socialists in order to try to take Rama out of his post.
The Socialists’ internal fight is a great help to the governing coalition at the moment.
Rama also said that the governing Democrats should convince their former Transport Minister, Lulzim Basha, now foreign minister, to go to the prosecutor’s office to respond to questions on alleged corruption during the tender of the Rreshen-Kalimash road project.
Rama said that the victory of the governing Democrats at the snap elections last Sunday was “dirty” saying that Albania still needs to make a lot of efforts to achieve the required international standards of free and fair elections.
