TIRANA, Oct. 2 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha said Tuesday that establishing diplomatic ties with Germany 20 years ago was one of the most important events for Albania following World War II.
Berisha said Albanians was correct to believe Germany would be a close friend helping Albania in its move toward democracy.
The Albania premier also praised some 700 million Euros of aid given by the western country to the tiny Balkan nation.
Albania also hopes for Germany’s support in its integration efforts into NATO and the European Union.
Albania is holding a week of German cultural events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties with Germany.
Gernot Erler, visiting German state minister of the foreign ministry, said that: “Germany has been and will be a very important and close partner to Albania in the application and efficiency of the reforms, in the process of integration into NATO and the EU and in its economic and political development.”
